Green Dragon Award
By: Amy Song
On Thursday, September 17 at the executive school board meeting, the Green Dragon Award was presented to junior Devansh Kumar. This award was presented in the presence of school board members from each of the 14 school districts, along with Dr. Smith, Dr. Janssen, and Dr. Williams.
So, what exactly is the Green Dragon Award? This award is brand new, developed just this year. The purpose of the award is to recognize students who represent honor, service, integrity, and fully embody the spirit of our school community. Dr. Williams, Assistant Director at MLWGS, spoke very highly of Devansh: “He shows up and has the skill and talent, but he is also selfless because he wants to improve the school and community. His humility makes him completely deserving of the Green Dragon Award.”These statements refer to Devansh’s contribution to the school in the form of filming videos. He recorded promotion videos for the middle school Summer Regional Governor’s School and filmed a school board appreciation video. Many of the members of the school board praised his phenomenal videography skills.
As a part of the Green Dragon Award, Devansh was given a custom Maggie Walker letterman jacket designed by Dr. Janssen, Dr. Williams, and baseball coach Mr. Dan Brown. To the assembled school board, Dr. Janssen described him as a stellar student. We are so proud of Devansh and his accomplishments in improving the Maggie Walker community. Congratulations!
